Fire Department Grants
The Insight Team has experience helping fire departments, first responders, and other public safety organizations in their efforts to secure funding through federal grant programs. We’ve written, edited, and helped conceptualize various projects and equipment proposals that have been successfully funded for relatively small to very large amounts.
If you are a fire department or related organization looking for funding opportunities, the opportunities listed below may be helpful for your department needs.
Fire Department Grant Funding Opportunities:
- Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program through FEMA (AFG). The AFG Grant Program helps firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards. Awards range from thousands of dollars up to millions of dollars for large scale projects.
- Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants through FEMA (SAFER). The SAFER Grant Program provides funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter organizations in order to help increase the number of trained, “front line” firefighters available in their communities. Awards range from tens of thousands of dollars up to millions of dollars for large scale projects.
- Fire Prevention and Safety Grants through FEMA (Part of AFG, FP&S). The FP&S Grant Program supports projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and fire related hazards. Awards range from thousands of dollars up to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
- Firefighters Charitable Foundation Grants are given to assist local fire/disaster victims, fire prevention education, volunteer fire department equipment purchase, and community safety programs.
- Firefighters Support Foundation, Inc. Grants are for equipment purchases. Awards are typically a few thousand dollars.
- National Fire Protection Association The available grant is for specialized training for hazardous materials response teams. Grant award is $5,000.
- FM Global Fire Prevention Grant Program Through the Fire Prevention Grant Program, fire departments and brigades, as well as national, state, regional, local and community organizations can apply for funding to support a wide array of fire prevention. Awards range from hundreds to thousands of dollars.
- Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Grants provide funding for life-saving equipment, disaster assistance, and educational opportunities for first responders and public safety organizations.
- New Jersey American Water Volunteer Firefighter and Emergency Responder Grant Program Grants will be awarded to cover the costs associated with purchasing personal protective gear, communications equipment, firefighting tools, water handling equipment, training, and related activities/materials that will be used to support the operations of volunteer fire departments and emergency responders. Maximum grant amount is $1,000. Eligible applicants must be in New Jersey American Water’s service territory.

Many states and foundations offer programs that you may find helpful.
