PEP Grants
What is the PEP Grant Program?
The Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) provides grants to LEAs and community-based organizations (CBOs) to initiate, expand, or enhance physical education programs, including after-school programs, for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Grant recipients must implement programs that help students make progress toward meeting state Physical Education (PE) standards.
What is the Award Amount?
Estimated award ranges are from $100,000 to $750,000 per year. Projects can be 1, 2, or 3 years.
Who is Eligible to Apply?
Local education agencies (LEAs) and community-based organizations (CBOs).
What is the 2015 Status of PEP?
The 2015 federal budget was finalized in mid-December. The US Department of Education’s (ED) Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP grant program) was allocated $47 Million. In communications we recently had with the PEP Program Manager, Carlette KyserPegram, we learned that the amount appropriated by Congress for 2015 was NOT enough to make new PEP grants in 2015. So ED will not be holding a PEP competition in 2015 and does not expect to make any new PEP grant awards in 2015. Continuation awards for existing PEP grant winners are scheduled to be funded for 2015. It is far too soon to say what this means for PEP in 2016 and the future, but for this year, those who planned on applying for PEP will not be able to do so.

Has Insight Had Success Working With Clients to Obtain PEP Grant Funding?
Our team is extremely well versed on the subject of PEP grants, and we’ve had a lot of success for our clients. We’ve worked with a wide variety of schools in developing, applying, implementing, and evaluating programs. The Insight Team is proud to have successfully helped secure over $40 million dollars for schools through the PEP grant program. In 2013 we won more than half (55.6%) of the PEP Grants we wrote, which significantly exceeds the annual percentage of grants awarded nationally, which has ranged from 5% to 16% since 2006. 18.33% of all 2013 PEP grants awarded were awarded to Insight PEP applicants. To date, our CEO Rosalie Mangino-Crandall, has written 24 winning PEP grants and edited another 46 winning PEP grants.
Our 2013 PEP Grant Results were as follows:
· 57.9% of Insight’s 2013 PEP applicants won awards in 2013.
